Novel, Harper, 1972, 201 Pages 

Anna has always been the clumsy one in the family. Somehow she can never do anything right! She bumps into tables, and she can't read the blackboard at her school. Her perfect brothers and sisters call her "Awkward Anna." When Papa announces that the family is moving from Germany to Canada, Anna's heart sinks. How can she learn English when she can't even read German? Nothing could be worse than this!

But when the Soldens arrive in Canada, Anna learns that there is a reason for her clumsiness. And suddenly, wonderfully, her whole world begins to change.

	I still remember the song 'gie gedanken sind frie' that they loved to sing during assembly in germany, then when mrs solden told customers that her apples were raw instead of fresh! Such a lovely book!

Love this read. Ms. Little begins this novel in pre-war Germany and a family that feels the threat of the times. In moving to Canada the Solden family faces different challenges, but grow in many ways. Ms. Little draws from her own experiences to create the personality of Anna, the youngest member of this family. I use it as a novel study with my ten year old students. They love the story and can relate to some of Anna's frustrations. It is a novel full of hope, courage, and triumph.

I like to read a lot. This story is vary touching and exhillarating. I am glad that at the end Anna's world is turned around. I once read this book as a child in braille. and now as an adult I wanted to order it and buy it. So I bought it from seedlings a company for blind children. I know that I am not a child but when I bought it and started to read it it brought memories back as to when I was a child.
